Hydrography
Programme
The Hydrography B postgraduate course has a duration of one year and can be adapted to each student's qualifications and/or professional career. This one-year programme corresponds to a total of 60 ECTS credits. Throughout this period, blended learning is interspersed with immersive fieldwork experiences.
Career paths
Graduates of the Hydrography Category B programme are well-prepared for diverse and rewarding careers in the marine and offshore sectors. The internationally recognised certification opens doors to a wide range of opportunities where hydrographic expertise is in high demand.
Typical career paths include:
- Hydrographic Surveyor in government agencies, port authorities, and hydrographic offices (e.g. for charting, monitoring coastal erosion, or maintaining navigational safety)
- Offshore Surveyor in the oil, gas, and renewable energy industries (e.g. site surveys, pipeline routing, subsea infrastructure)
- Dredging Surveyor working for major dredging companies, supporting coastal development, harbour deepening, and land reclamation projects
- Geospatial or GIS Specialist applying hydrographic data in mapping, modelling, and spatial analysis
- Survey Technician or Project Engineer with private survey companies using cutting-edge technology such as multibeam echosounders, LiDAR, and AUVs
- Data Processor or Analyst focusing on the validation, visualisation, and interpretation of hydrographic and geophysical data
Many graduates are employed by organisations such as hydrographic offices, engineering firms, environmental consultancies, offshore construction companies, and research institutions. Others may continue their studies or specialise further through a Category A programme.
This qualification not only builds strong technical skills, but also opens the way to an international career in a sector that plays a crucial role in supporting safe navigation, coastal management, and sustainable marine development.
What a network
Those who graduate here do not only have a diploma in their hands. You are also part of a strong network of maritime companies and service providers where your diploma opens doors. Here, but also abroad. That is a priceless advantage that will pay off for a lifetime.
