Graduates of the Hydrography Category B programme are well-prepared for diverse and rewarding careers in the marine and offshore sectors. The internationally recognised certification opens doors to a wide range of opportunities where hydrographic expertise is in high demand.
Typical career paths include:
- Hydrographic Surveyor in government agencies, port authorities, and hydrographic offices (e.g. for charting, monitoring coastal erosion, or maintaining navigational safety)
- Offshore Surveyor in the oil, gas, and renewable energy industries (e.g. site surveys, pipeline routing, subsea infrastructure)
- Dredging Surveyor working for major dredging companies, supporting coastal development, harbour deepening, and land reclamation projects
- Geospatial or GIS Specialist applying hydrographic data in mapping, modelling, and spatial analysis
- Survey Technician or Project Engineer with private survey companies using cutting-edge technology such as multibeam echosounders, LiDAR, and AUVs
- Data Processor or Analyst focusing on the validation, visualisation, and interpretation of hydrographic and geophysical data
Many graduates are employed by organisations such as hydrographic offices, engineering firms, environmental consultancies, offshore construction companies, and research institutions. Others may continue their studies or specialise further through a Category A programme.
