Scope
IGF: Methanol – Methanol as Low Flash Point Fuel aims to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible use of methanol as a low-flashpoint fuel on board seagoing vessels, in accordance with the IMO IGF Code and relevant international regulations.
Objective
The objective of the course “IGF: Methanol – Methanol as Low Flash Point Fuel” is to provide participants with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical competence required to safely handle, operate, and maintain methanol fuel systems on board ships that use methanol as a low-flashpoint fuel.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the physical and chemical properties of methanol and its implications for safe shipboard use.
- Identify and apply appropriate health, safety, and environmental protection measures.
- Operate and monitor methanol fuel systems, including bunkering, storage, and engine operation.
- Respond effectively to emergencies, such as leaks, spills, or fires involving methanol.
- Demonstrate awareness of regulatory requirements and company Safety Management System procedures related to methanol as a marine fuel.
