Course Content
- Overview of liquefied gas tankers: types, layout and cargo systems
- Basic cargo operations: loading, discharging, cargo care in transit and ESD (Emergency Shutdown)
- Properties of liquefied gases (pressure/temperature behaviour, boil-off, cryogenic effects, electrostatic hazards)
- Hazards and control measures: toxicity, fire/explosion, leaks, low temperature and pressure hazards; including inerting, ventilation and gas detection/measurement
- Safe working practices: safety management, SDS/MSDS use, gas measuring equipment, PPE and procedures (incl. hot/cold work)
- Emergency response, firefighting and first aid (including SDS/MSDS relevance)
- Environmental protection: prevention and actions in case of incidents/spillage
Objectives
On completion, the participant will be able to:
- Contribute safely to cargo operations on liquefied gas tankers
- Identify cargo-related hazards and apply appropriate risk control measures
- Correctly use gas detection/measurement equipment and safety equipment, and work in accordance with procedures
- Respond effectively to emergencies (including ESD activation and fire incidents)
- Prevent pollution and take the correct actions in the event of leakage/spillage
