Congratulations dr. Noble!

On the 29th of June, Alison Noble, lecturer at the Antwerp Maritime Academy, successfully defended her doctoral thesis, entitled ‘Maritime English put to the test! The feasibility and desirability of setting global standards for Maritime English: a survey-based study’.

She becomes the fifth Doctor in Nautical Sciences, after dr. Kris De Baere (2011), dr. Rowan Van Schaeren (2012), dr. Helen Verstraelen (2013) and dr. Linda Van Dessel (2016).

In 2006 Nautical Sciences became a separate field of study, allowing obtaining a PhD in it. As PhD’s are awarded by universities, the Antwerp Maritime Academy and the Antwerp University created a special joint faculty for this purpose.
