The Antwerp Maritime Academy is participating in the Erasmus + programme. The Erasmus + programme aims to support actions in the fields of Education, Training, Youth and Sport for the period 2014-2020. The programme gives opportunities to students and staff to spend a period abroad to increase their skills and employability.
The Antwerp Maritime Academy is also participating in other international projects where its know-how can be used to develop maritime education and training.
In 2017 13 Flemish University Colleges - including the Antwerp Maritime Academy - joined forces within the framework of the ‘Global Minds’- programme (VLIR-UOS). With the Global Minds programme (travel grants, research projects) the Antwerp Maritime Academy wants to raise awareness for the 'Global South' among students, staff and professors.
BEST PRACTICE: CAMBODIA MARITIME UNIVERSITY
The Antwerp Maritime Academy was Leading Partner in two projects aimed at establishing maritime education and training by setting up a Maritime Navigation Department as a part of the future Cambodia Maritime Academy.
In 2003 the first project was successfully concluded. It examined the use of distance learning, and more particularly e-learning. The project was sponsored by the European Commission, under its Asia IT&C programme. More information on this project can be found here: E-tools for Off Shore Training of Maritime Personnel.
The second project, sponsored by the Asia-Link programme of the European Commission, was started in September 2004 and ended on 31 August 2007.
The project involved the training of Cambodian instructors, the development of a curriculum and teaching methodology, the operational set-up of a navigation department, etc.
More information on this project can be found here: Definition of the Curriculum and Training of All Instructors for the Start-up of a New and Full Cycle of Maritime Navigation Training and Education in Cambodia.
